The line claims the ship will be the most spacious cruise ship at sea, for starters; they also note that the ship will offer the highest staff level of any other new ship, as well as the highest number of suite categories available at sea. Setting sail around the world in 2022, these are some of the most anticipated cruise ships in the biz. There will be 12 major new cruise ships are arriving in 2022, including from Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and MSC Cruises. The main attraction here is the first suspended infinity pool at sea, flanked by tiered lounge space, hot tubs and a champagne bar.
Family Fun In The Sun
It's the first show-at-sea I've seen with a waterfall and nine-foot-tall robotic arms, and so far, it's one of my favorites. The ship's riff on Broadway-approved "Wizard of Oz" — 16-piece live orchestra and flying bed included — delighted me, a hater of most musicals. There's no need to grab coffee before harnessing up for the part-zipling, part-agility Crown's Edge course. You'll be jolted awake when the floor drops from beneath your feet, leaving you dangling 154 feet above the ocean before the zipline kicks in. It wouldn't be a roundup of Icon of the Seas' best amenities without a mention of its waterpark. If you're a frequent cruiser — especially with Royal Caribbean — amenities like the mini-golf course and water playground may not seem exciting.
Viking Neptune (Viking Cruises)
One of the smallest ships on our list of most-anticipated 2022 vessels, Viking Mars holds fewer than a thousand passengers, with fewer than 500 staterooms, which makes for a more intimate cruising experience. MSC Cruises’ MSC Seascape is one of the line’s Seaside EVO ships, with an all-new experience and spaces for guests to enjoy. With more than 13,000 square meters of outdoor space, the ship is designed to connect guests with, well, the seascape. Disney Wish takes all the fun and magic of one of the Disney theme parks and packs it into one unforgettable experience at sea. If you’ve traveled on a Disney Cruise Line ship before, Disney Wish will delight you with all-new features.

The World’s Largest Cruise Ship Is Nearly 1,200 Feet Long
The Altitude entertainment and activity zone offers new ways for families to have fun, too, such as with the Altitude Skywalk, a high rope course; a nine-hole miniature golf course; and Altitude Splash Valley, a water area for kids. Royal Caribbean’s popular AquaTheater concept becomes a true marquee attraction on Icon of the Seas, moved to the Deck 15 AquaDome, a vast glass and steel dome offering expansive ocean views. Surfside, dedicated to younger families, replaces the Boardwalk found on some of the line’s other ships. The quickest way to get there will be by slide from Deck 8, while the area is linked to the kids’ club and arcade.
Meanwhile, fans of luxury and smaller ship lines can also look forward to new ships. Silversea, Explora Journeys, Ritz Carlton and Viking Ocean are among the lines introducing new vessels in 2024. Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises will introduce first-in-class vessels, while Cunard is launching its first new ship in over a decade.
Accommodating 6,700 passengers, Utopia of the Seas will feature the line's iconic Central Park and Boardwalk neighborhoods, along with the thrilling Ultimate Abyss slide. The most awarded ship in the world is stealing the spotlight again for entertainment, dining, family activities and more, it’s filled with endless ways to make every moment incredible. Reimagined from bow to stern, the Amplified Oasis of the Seas® is loaded with fresh and exciting things to do to level up your romantic retreat — including bars, entertainment and dance floors that keep the fun going long into the night. Norwegian Encore is a slightly bigger version of three other Breakaway-Plus class ships that Norwegian has unveiled since 2015 (thanks to a small addition at its back to make room for the laser tag area). Already, one of the vessels -- MSC Grandiosa -- is sailing again in the Mediterranean, albeit on cruises that only are open to residents of Europe's Schengen countries.
And the Royal Promenade gets an update with The Pearl, a new art sculpture that you literally walk through that serves as a centerpiece. Icon of the Seas marks not only a big deal for the cruise line but also the cruise industry. It’s the first of the newest class of ship from Royal Caribbean (Icon class) that promises to pack more things onboard to do, see, and experience than ever before. In total, Royal Caribbean says the ship took nearly 900 days of design and construction — amounting to roughly three years — to build.

The ‘Icon Of The Seas’ Will Soon Be The World’s Largest Cruise Ship — Here’s How Much It Costs To Get Aboard
Icon of the Seas will offer a mix of new concepts and Royal Caribbean favorites among its eight onboard neighborhoods. Icon of the Seas will rise 20 decks high and stretch 1,198 feet in length. At first glance, I had snubbed the dining and lounge area as a rip-off of a generic airport coffee shop. But during my three days on Icon, I returned to the centrally located space more often than expected. I spent my time there perched at one of its in-water loungers, contently splashing my legs around the water, wondering if I actually hated cruises.

While construction is complete, the ship needs to be supplied, staffed up, and filled with various amenities to finish the ship. The inaugural sailing will take place on January 27, 2024 from Miami, Florida when Icon of the Seas will sail to the Eastern Caribbean and Royal Caribbean’s private islands of Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas. There are 8 neighborhoods (one more than the Oasis Class ships), with three of the neighborhoods being an all new concept. The ship will begin operating 7-night cruises from Miami, Florida to the Caribbean in late January.
Royal Caribbean’s new 'Utopia of the Seas' features five pools, three-story waterslides and poolside ... Icon of the Seas will embark on its maiden voyage from Miami in January 2024, after which it will offer a series of Eastern and Western Caribbean routes, including visits to Royal Caribbean's exclusive island, ‘Perfect Day at CocoCay’. Following Icon, Royal Caribbean plans to introduce sister ship Star of the Seas in 2025.

The cruise line has referred to Icon as a "white paper" ship, meaning they started with a blank slate in terms of ideas for this ship. Millions are following the journey through the eyes of the passengers, as they live and post their lives aboard a vessel they’ll be on for nearly a year. If it sounds like a reality show, that’s exactly what some watchers have turned it into. Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas runs nearly 1,200 feet (365 meters) from bow to stern. Royal Caribbean plans for Icon of the Seas to sail all year, so prices vary; but some start at about $1,700 per person.
